Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ)
In 2020, Adept Economics Director Gene Tunny presented a commissioned briefing on the state economic outlook to the Policy Committee of the LGAQ at its annual conference on the Gold Coast. The Policy Committee comprised Mayors and Councillors of major councils across Queensland.
Adept Economics is highly regarded by local governments. Here are some examples of the work we have recently done for LGA’s:
Toowoomba Goods Shed
Adept Economics worked with Toowoomba Regional Council on the Railways Goods Shed repair project by delivering a cost benefit analysis as part of their successful $5 Million dollar funding submission to the state Government. We demonstrated the net economic benefits of the project, which included substantial tourism benefits to the region.
Bundaberg Paradise Dam
We have assisted Bundaberg Regional Council and grower groups with their representations on behalf of the community regarding Building Queensland’s business case for the repair of Paradise Dam. Our Economic Costs of Inaction Report on Paradise Dam was influential in keeping open the option of a full repair of the dam. In December 2021 the Queensland Government announced it would fully repair the dam.

Toowoomba Material Recycling Facility
Adept Economics was commissioned by Toowoomba Regional Council to build an interactive benefit-cost analysis model of the proposed Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) for Toowoomba Regional Council’s Waste Services division. This has helped Toowoomba Regional Council understand the economics of its proposed MRF.
Carrathool, NSW, Local Supply Chain Opportunities Study
Carrathool Shire Council is responsible for a highly-productive agricultural region in the NSW Riverina. The Council engaged Adept Economics to undertake a local supply chain opportunities study in 2022. This included an economic profile of the region and identified future economic opportunities and paths to those opportunities. The study will be used to inform the Shire’s economic development strategy.
